La finale della 69ª edizione di Miss Universo, chiamata Miss Universo 2020, è stata posticipata di diversi mesi per gli effetti della pandemia di COVID-19 e si è tenuta il 16 maggio 2021, in Florida al Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood di Hollywood.
Tra le oltre 70 miss provenienti da tutto il mondo, che si sono sfidate con abiti eleganti ma anche scenografici, a rappresentare l'Italia c’era la siciliana Viviana Vizzini, che a causa delle restrizioni per la pandemia aveva temuto di non poter partecipare alla finale.
Il concorso di bellezza di quest’anno verrà sicuramente ricordato per il discorso di Miss Birmania, che dal palco ha denunciato il colpo di Stato dell'esercito nel suo Paese. "La nostra gente muore e viene colpita dall'esercito ogni giorno", ha detto Thuzar Wint Lwin, "vorrei esortare tutti a parlare della Birmania".
Ma colei che si è portata a casa la corona e l'incarico di Miss Universo 2020 è stata Andrea Meza, 26enne messicana, ha avuto la meglio su Miss Brasile, Julia Gama, e Miss Perù, Janick Maceta del Castillo, rispettivamente seconda e terza classificata. Fasciata in un incantevole abito rosso impreziosito di lustrini, la messicana è stata incoronata dall’ex reginetta di bellezza Zozibini Tunzi. E proprio alla Miss Universo in carica è dedicata la sfida di stile di Covet Fashion in onore del patrimonio AAPI, chiamata "México, esto es para ti!" (Messico, questo è per te!), la frase che Andrea ha esclamato nel momento dell'incoronazione.
«Sono così onorata di essere stata selezionata tra le altre 73 donne fantastiche con cui ho partecipato — ha detto Meza in un comunicato stampa diffuso da Miss Universe Organization — . Indossare la corona di Miss Universo è un sogno che si avvera e spero di servire il mondo attraverso la mia difesa dell'uguaglianza nei diritti».

Alma Andrea Meza Carmona (Chihuahua, 13 agosto 1994) è una modella e truccatrice messicana, incoronata Miss Messico 2017 e Miss Universo 2020. Nata a Chihuahua in una famiglia di origini messicane e cinesi, è la primogenita di tre figlie. Ha studiato ingegneria del software presso l'Università Autonoma di Chihuahua, cogniugando poi il lavoro di modella con quello di sviluppatrice.
È stata la terza messicana ad essere eletta Miss Universo dopo Lupita Jones (1991) e Ximena Navarrete (2010).
Nel 2016 ha ottenuto il titolo di Miss Messico (in rappresentanza dello stato di Chihuahua), per poi raggiungere l'anno seguente la seconda posizione a Miss Mondo, conquistando in quest'ultimo il titolo di Continental Queens of Beauty per l'America.
Meza è una truccatrice e modella certificata, è appassionata di sport estremi e di Crossfit ed è l'ambasciatrice ufficiale del marchio turistico della città di Chihuahua. Secondo la sua biografia, poi, è anche un'attivista impegnata nella difesa dei diritti femminili all'Istituto municipale per le donne. Nel corso delle premiazione le hanno chiesto cosa pensasse degli standard di bellezza e di come secondo lei stanno gradualmente cambiando. "Oggigiorno la bellezza non è solo il modo in cui ci guardiamo", ha risposto Meza, "Per me, la bellezza irradia non solo nel nostro spirito, ma nei nostri cuori e nel modo in cui ci comportiamo.
